CrPC amendments come into force
The amendments made to the Code of Criminal Procedure last year will come into force on the 23rd of June, 2006. This will see the release of thousands of undertrials languishing in prisons.

Gender equality in J&K
The Jammu and Kashmir Government has dispensed with the `valid till marriage' clause in the Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC), thus bringing the women of the State on a par with men. Earlier, the PRC was valid only till marriage for women whereas there was no such condition for men.
